Blog Bonsai Tree for India Today in this article I will tell you about what are the plants that are found in India that you can use to become a good bonsai, to be honest when I started this art of bonsai I had no idea if I can start in India or not because for me this art is a foreign art for us and I thought plants should be exotic in nature and are different plants. But over time I have to know that art itself is exotic the plant does not need to be special. You can even make a bonsai of a very ordinary plant that can even find growing around you in nature by itself without any human interaction. All the plants I'm going to mention that you're not the only list you can cultivate a bonsai but that means I've tried my hands on these plant species. Bonsai trees you can grow in India Here is the list of all bonsai for India that you can grow, there might be other species that you can grow here in India, but I only have information about these plants with my experience:1. Ficus-There's a reason this plant is at the top of my list. This plant is so common in India that we almost sometimes despise its presence around us. This plant has about 850 species but you should have seen it in the form of peepal (religious ficus) these plants only grow anywhere regardless of whether it is in the cracks of an old house, up the tree, under your stairs, or even on the side of the drains. It's like this plant is obsessed with challenging hostile territory. Wherever you find a pinch of sand and humidity you will grow your roots to fight against life. This could be the most common ficus species, but it is not the only one found in India there are a series of species that you could try your hands on as;Ficus Microcarpa-This plant is very good to grow a bonsai because of its small leaves and rapid growth, but it is not so easily available in Indian nurseries as compared to other ficus species I have mentioned. Ficus Long Island-A large plant to make a bonsai because this plant grows faster, this plant is easily accessible everywhere You can almost rot and form its branches throughout the year, except for heavy winter, I have personally seen it growing new leaves all year, not only in the winters due to temperature. Although it is recommended prune during the last summers. Ficus benghalensis (Banyan)- Ficus benghalensis (Banyan)- This is also a very common tree in India, but be a bit cautious as you take this tree to your home, your parents could throw the house floor or you too. My parents were a bit reluctant when they saw that I bought a huge banana plant for my terrace at that time was a beginner in this art, although I am still a beginner It has been a few years since I train in bonsai and I have a great collection of mine in which I pride myself, so my two cents for you buy a bonsai after making sure it's not a problem with the religious beliefs of their family. You can also get other ficus species that are available in your area almost all species carry similar traits that are ideal for a bonsai.2. Jade/ Crassula Ovata-You could know this plant by the name of luck plant, It is a very common plant in India due to its low level of necessary care, This plant requires very little water to survive because it is a succulent plant and can withstand very dry conditions for a long time, if you are someone who would not be able to tend to bonsai regularly or go on regular trips this will be the perfect plant for you. A week without water will not be so much of a problem, but don't do it too often would be too hard on the tree and the tree won't grow so well.3. Elm Chino (Ulmus Parvifolia)- A large plant for bonsai due to its small leaves and easy shape through the wiring and regular pruning. This plant needs regular irrigation and pruning. This is very easy to get in India, and this plant is very lenient for beginners in bonsai as it is strong and tolerant of harsh conditions. In case the irrigation session is lost, this plant could spill its leaves very quickly, but don't worry that it is only your mechanism to reduce the water loss just to prepare to survive due to lack of water. Water is normal and leaves will grow.4. Juniper-Juniper is a very common plant that is seen for bonsai, approximately 50-60 species of juniper and due to its dense foliage and trunk easily, it is an ideal plant for bonsai. You can get some species easily in India, but it depends on the region that lives on how it grows generally actually well in a colder region. It is a growth that springs just before winter begins.5. Casuarina-You can find this plant on the roads with a long scale like dredging leaves, but remember not to buy the common casuarina with long needle-like leaves, go through the short leaves because to grow a good foliage small leaves will look better, a tree with long needles would look like a wild bush and it is hard to form and keep to spin. Divi Divi... Honestly, I personally have not tried to make a divi-divi bonsai but I have found it in the Indian nurseries, there is no reason why I have not yet tried it but it is only that I never thought of it. I should try a bonsai divi-divi now I'm thinking. I'll update you the moment I'll start it and probably make a video too. I don't know if it's easy to handle or not.7. Pomegranate-This is a great plant to start a bonsai of, is not very difficult to handle and maintain and the best part is easily accessible in India. Don't go for the ordinary grenade my suggestion would be to get a dwarf grenade species to grow a bonsai. You just have to know the balance of not too much water to too much less water. Just keep the soil moisture and let it dry between irrigation sessions.8. Brasileño Raintree-This plant is native to Brazil as the name suggests, it is a hardwood tree with delicate branches and its leaves bend with the darkness and open with the light. This tree is a great tree to train like a bonsai but it may not be easily accessible in every nursery, but you can keep your eyes open if it is there. I know only a few nurseries have this plant but only a few plants there are not many.9. Sweet Pithecellobium (jungle jalebi)-This is a tree that you will find around growing in very fascinating and beautiful ways that blow your mind if you have interest in bonsai and you notice the different form of natural trees to be inspired. It is very easy to take care of this bonsai and grows very quickly. Regulate it properly during summers but look closely at your water sessions during winters. You can prune it hard I found quite strong and respond well to prune. This is a great plant to train in a bonsai and I suggest you enter this tree inside your house and train it in a bonsai. 10. Buxus (Boxwood)-This plant originated from Europe and is also available in India, but only in some places, This bonsai can bear the shadow as well as the sun, but take good care of it for winters and not water too much during this period of time. This is a very popular plant in bonsai enthusiasts due to its fine branch structure and small leaves. Water this tree normally and it will grow simply great. 11. Adenium (Desert Rose)-It is a native succulent plant in South Africa and Arabia. This plant often does not look like a bonsai in the eyes of a great bonsai master, but for me personally, this is just an impressive plant and one of the most amazing because of the least amount of care you need and beautiful shades of flowers. You can try all the year as long as it will be when you want it to bloom. The flowers may be there all year long if you will get enough sunlight. Write it down and try it correctly to give it the desired shape but don't forget to remove the wires in time to avoid the penetration marks on the bonsai. 12. Schefflera-Schefflera is a tropical tree and can be cultivated as a good inner bonsai, you can live with dim light and low humidity only protects this low temperature tree. It grows very well in India and grows a very good cannon, It can be a great bonsai if you can train well. This plant loves the wet soil and water that well throughout the year only be cautious during the summers for the balance of the correct amount of water you need. The replacement should be done in spring after every two years. Shake the tree when young, as it is prone to breaking when it forms barely. It can be cultivated from a seed or cut very easily and can also be easily obtained from any Indian nursery. 13. Lemon-The lemon plant can be cultivated in a large bonsai tree and is not so difficult to care, you should water well but take into account that the soil is dry between alternating irrigation sessions. Regular pruning is necessary if you want the desired form and dense branching. Compared to the regular mixture of the soil when I mixed the cocoa, the plant grew better. It can be easily cultivated from seeds and cuts14. Premna-This is the part of the Indian Heritage and belongs to us to be available in your area, It is a very popular plant for the training of bonsai due to its small leaves and the texture of the trunk, This plant will grow very better in the condition of high humidity and good light. This plant grows very vigorously and can take an amazing way when it trains well. But you need to be very careful with this plant while the wiring could penetrate into the tree bark quickly due to its rapid growth. This should be the plant you must have in your bonsai collection, this plant will not take long to become a beautiful bonsai that will always be proud while you show up to your friends and family. If you're the same as it was then you don't know where you can get these plants from it is totally fine, to get these plants I suggest you visit your nearby nursery simply write in google to find them, don't buy from halkeres because it's very less likely that you find a very good plant with a good character because they don't seem very valuable and avoid carrying any heavy plant. Just go to the room and I'm sure you'd find a better pre-bonsai material for your training. I continue to visit nurseries in the hope of finding a plant with a good and unique character that can make me a bonsai.
